Why SLUSH Matters

Stories like this have been told in whispers for generations.

Or not told at all.

Or told...and ignored.

SLUSH exists to bring one of those stories into the light — not just to share what happened, but to shift the narrative that has too often placed blame on the very people who needed protection.

This film is about girlhood, power, silence…and what happens when those lines are crossed.

And most importantly — it’s about changing what happens next.

About Me

Paolina Milana is a storyteller, filmmaker, and author whose work lives at the intersection of truth and transformation.

A first-generation Sicilian American, she grew up as the family translator and primary caregiver for her mother and sister, both diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Those early experiences shaped her understanding of voice, silence, and the stories we carry.

She is the author of several award-winning books, including The S Word — the memoir that inspired SLUSH.

Through her work, Paolina is committed to telling the stories that are often left out of the conversation — not just to be heard, but to help change what we believe about them.
